Thread Veins

Thread veins on the cheeks and nose can be treated quickly and effectively with diathermy or IPL laser.

Thread veins are thin cutaneous veins that commonly coexist with large varicose veins. They are usually asymptomatic and reassurance may be all that is needed. They are smaller veins than 0.5 mm diameter seen in the skin in varicosity. They are 'usually purple or red in color. These tiny veins are associated with superficial venous incompetence in 30% of cases.

Spider thread veins on the legs often occur in association with varicose veins. It is frequently an inherited problem that is aggravated by pregnancy, occupations involving prolonged periods of standing (e.g. hairdressing, nursing, doctors)

Sclerotherapy treatment was pioneered in the twenties as a treatment for varicose veins, before being refined to treat thread veins.

Varicose Veins In Legs

Reticular veins, often called “feeder veins,” are bluish subdermal veins about 1 to 3 mm in diameter that give rise to telangiectasia. Spider veins or telangiectasias are very small (≤1 mm in diameter.

It is important to note that treatment cannot be offered on the bluish coloured veins as these are feeder veins and may require consultation with a plastic surgeon or vascular specialist doctor. They are the bulging veins found on the legs and may be referred to as Varicose veins.
